FSMA Food Defense Training
Complimentary Training – FSMA – Intentional Adulteration Rule Training for food processing plants.
WIFSS has developed an online training course, available in both English and Spanish, to assist California specialty crop food processing firms comply with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSM) Intentional Adulteration (IA) Rule.
The IA rule requires regulated food processing plants to develop a food defense plan that assesses vulnerabilities and risks from intentional adulteration. The facility must address mitigation measures to monitor and keep records to assure foods produced are not intentionally contaminated from an insider attack. Compliance dates are staggered depending on the value of sales. The largest plants are required to have a food defense plan by July 26, 2019 with smaller plants by July 27, 2020, and very small plants by July 26, 2021. There are numerous exemptions based on size of operations, sales, and how food is processed and stored.
This training is made available by a grant from the California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) Specialty Crop Block Grant Program to assist Specialty Crop food processing companies comply with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Intentional Adulteration (IA) Food Defense Rule.
