As wildfire season rages along the west coast, wrecking havoc on rural communities from California to Washington state, there is no better time to learn how to prepare, manage, and plan for disasters. In an ongoing partnership with RDPC and The Department of Homeland Security, WIFSS trained a diverse group of professionals on creating a thorough disaster preparedness and response plan.
Protecting our Food and Agriculture
Finding real world solutions to issues facing Sweden and the U.S. from threats of agroterrorism is the driving force behind the WIFSS-Sweden partnership. AWR 328, All Hazards Preparedness for Animals in Disasters, meets for the first time at a veterinary college as the University Of Minnesota College Of Veterinary Medicine hosts the course on October 7, 2017.
Animals in Disasters Course – a Successful Launch Nationwide
An awareness level course providing first responders with the tools to protect, respond to, and recover from consequences of disasters involving animals in rural communities, was launched in Santa Rosa in early March. The AWR 328 course introduces participants to the unique issues that must be considered and addressed when animals are involved in an emergency.
