China calls on WIFSS Expertise

Professor Shen Qirong, Vice President of Nanjing Agricultural University presenting award to Dr. Osburn

Cheryl Scott and Bennie Osburn of WIFSS, and Xinbin Chen, Director of Veterinary Oncology, School of Veterinary Medicine, UCD,  traveled to Nanjing, China to discuss the possibility of developing research and educational programs between UC Davis and Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU).  NAU is interested in faculty exchanges, graduate training opportunities and joint research projects that are of mutual interest. Discussions included the possibility of establishing a Center of Excellence.  There is considerable interest in food safety, and plant and animal agriculture. Osburn and Scott gave presentations on the future of veterinary medicine and its role in food safety, and Chen spoke on graduate programs. Further discussions will be taking place over the next few months.

Osburn was presented the “Honorary Appointment as Honorary Professor, Nanjing Agricultural University,” by Professor Shen Qirong, Vice President of Nanjing Agricultural University.  The award appoints him as an international faculty member of the university.
